Trek to Brahmatal, a lake where Lord Brahma has meditated as per mythology, is one of the few treks possible to do in winter when other trekking routes are closed. The trip is the best option in winter; it is on the opposite side of the famous Roopkund. The thrilling view of the Himalayan range from the trail is why this trek is the best. This amazingly beautiful trek starts from a small hamlet, Lohajung, which is a base for another very famous trek Roopkund Lake. The ride to Lohajung village from Kathgodam is very interesting as we get through scenic hilly road, which covers Bhimtal, Almora, Kausani, Gwaldham, etc. The ride takes 9-10 hours to reach Lohajung.
The Brahmatal trek best time to climb is the winter months of December to March because, during the winter months, we can expect snowfall. We will get the privilege of walking on snow-covered trails. The Himalayan weather is quite unpredictable in the mountains. Brahmatal being an easy level and winter-friendly trek, the weather is mostly sunny in the daytime while it gets freezing during the night. Brahmatal trek temperature is around 2 to 10 degrees Celsius during sunny days, and during nights, the temperatures drop up to -4 degrees Celsius. In the months of summer, we will be delighted to see the diverse and vivid variety of rhododendrons blooming across the trail. Drive Distance: 260 KM | Drive Duration: 9-10 Hours | Altitude: 7600 feet
Arrive in Rishikesh by early morning and board the vehicle for the drive to Lohajung. The Lohajung is the small town from where the trek originates, it is 260 kilometres away from Rishikesh, and it will take 9-10 hours to reach there. Take a short break at Devprayag for the Ganga sangam photos. You can see the Bhagirathi and Alaknanda rivers join to form the holy Ganges. Continue your journey to Rudraprayag along the banks of the Alaknanda River. Enjoy the scenic drive until we reach Lohajung. On arrival, we'll check into a guesthouse for the night as the Brahmatal trek will begin the next morning.
You can book transport from us, which will pick you up from Rishikesh Bus Stand at 6:00 AM. The Bolero cab costs 7,500 and will be shared by 6 to 7 trekkers. The Tempo Traveller costs 11,000 and will be shared by 11-12 trekkers. The transport charge is not included in the trek cost. It's to be split amongst trekkers and pay the driver directly. Otherwise, you can reach Lohajung by road from Rishikesh, Haridwar, and Dehradun.

On this day our trek commences after having breakfast and packed lunch with us. Today we will trek to Bekaltal, which is 6 kilometres, and it takes 4-5 hours to reach there. The Bekaltal campsite is at an altitude of 9,850 feet from sea level. We will be tracing the ascending human-made stone tail, which mostly goes through the forest of Conifer, Cedar, Oak, and Fir. After walking for a while, the forest will give way to a small village named Mandoli to our left. From here, we can refill our water bottles and can take a short halt. The trail continues with mostly gradual ascent curves, and on the route, we will get magnificent views of Nandaghunti Peak. As we move higher, we will come across the valley where two rivers Kali and Pindari, confluence. The Kali valley, lying in splendid green patches, even in the midst of wintry heights. Walking for a few more minutes, we cross this wooden bridge over a stream, and we reach Begum – a nestling rest point on the slopes. After this, there are two more streams, and approximately it takes an hour hike to reach Bekaltal, which is a lake, that freezes in winter. We will camp here and overnight stay in tents.

Today we will trek to Brahmatal, another beautiful campsite, which is at an altitude of 10,450 feet and 5 kilometres trek distance from the Bekaltal campsite. It will take 5-6 hours to reach there. Brahmatal is the place where Lord Brahma is said to have meditated long ago. Here, in the state bird of Uttarakhand. The trail is through Oaks and Rhododendrons thickets over steep slopes for quite some time until we finally come out to a meadow. The meadow has its top at 11,500 feet, the highest point, and from here begins a slow descent to Brahmatal. We will find a small temple on our left from here, bright yellow flags flying in the air. Do not forget to capture the beautiful views of peaks like Trishul, Bethartoli & Nandaghunti. On reaching the campsite, we will find the small lake of Brahmatal, mostly frozen in winter. We will find a camping spot nearby and set up camps for the night. Make sure we wear warm clothing and are fully covered as it gets freezing in winter.
Altitude: 12250 feet | Trek Distance: 4 KM | Trek Duration: 3-4 hours | Trail Grade: Moderate
Today we will be trekking to Brahmatal Top, which is at a height of 12,250 feet and takes 2-3 hours to reach the Top point. It is an easy day as we can leave our backpacks in the camps and carry a daypack instead of it, we will be returning to the same campsite. We will cover the tricky pathways which go through Chota Jhandidar and Bada Jhandidar. A mountain ridge and valleys surround it on both sides. The top reveals magnificent views of the Himalayan ranges and glimpses of the majestic Peak of Mt. Trishul, which is very close along with the views of Mt. Nandaghunti. After spending blissful moments and capturing fantastic views of the range. We return to our campsite at Brahmatal.

We break our camps after breakfast and head back to Lohajung. Our trek to Lohajung is actually is a return journey, retracing the enchanting Rhododendron forest. It is a 10 kilometres distance and will take 5-6 hours to reach Lohajung. After reaching Lohajung, the day can be used to rest as well as to explore the small town and hear the mythological stories from locals and get lost in their culture. Overnight stay will be in a hotel/guesthouse.

Today is the last day of your amazing Brahmatal trek, and it's time to return to Rishikesh. After a hearty breakfast, check out from your guest house. Today's journey isn't a drive back but a golden chance to soak in the natural beauty of Devbhumi. Don't miss the pretty landscapes of Karnaprayag and the confluence of the Mandakini and Alaknanda rivers. Continue your journey along the banks of the Alaknanda River to Devprayag. Enjoy the scenic drive back until you reach Rishikesh.
If you've booked the transport with us, a Bolero/Tempo Traveler or a similar vehicle will pick you up from Lohajung and drop you in Rishikesh. The journey will take approximately 9-10 hours to reach the drop point at Rishikesh Bus Stand. So, it's advisable to make further bookings late in the evening or keep a margin of at least 3-4 hours.

Lohajung is a beautiful hill town in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is well connected by roads to different cities and towns of Uttarakhand. The road to Lohajung will go through Devprayag, Rudraprayag and Tharali. You can take a bus or shared cab or hire a taxi from Rishikesh, Haridwar, Dehradun, or other nearby towns. The distance between Rishikesh and Lohajung is approximately 260 km, and it takes around 09-10 hours to reach by road, depending on traffic and road conditions. It's recommended to start your journey early in the morning to avoid traffic and reach Lohajung before nightfall.
Note: - The bus journey from Delhi to Dehradun/Rishikesh takes 6 to 7 hours for 250 KM. It is advisable to book your tickets around 09-10 pm in the night to reach the early morning for your trek to avoid delays.
The nearest railway station to Lohajung is the Haridwar railway station. It is well-connected to all major cities of the country like New Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Patna, Kolkata, Bangalore and Ahmedabad circuitously. The railway station is located at the heart of the city. Autos and sharing rickshaws are easily accessible for exploring all parts of the city. You can take a taxi or a bus from the Bus stand and Railway station to Lohajung.
The nearest airport to Lohajung is Jolly Grant Airport, approximately 16 km from Rishikesh City. Domestic flights connect Dehradun with Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Once you reach the airport, you can take prepaid taxis outside the airport, which can be transferred to the Rishikesh bus stand and then continue the journey to Lohajung by road.

The best time for Brahmatal trek is from November to March. This trek is not preferred during the monsoon months from mid-June to August because of steep slopes and slippery terrain, making it very challenging to ascend during rain.

You can carry medicines prescribed by your doctor, if any. Although we have our First Aid kit with us on each trek, we suggest you carry some painkillers, Volini spray, kneecap, Electrals/ORS, etc.
Generally, people prefer Diamox for easy acclimatization, but we strictly avoid this kind of acclimatization. We encourage our trekkers to a natural acclimatization process. Hence you shouldn't be on the Diamox course before the start of the trek.
Drinking Alcohol or any other intoxication during the trek is strictly prohibited. Alcohol or this type of stuff dehydrates our body and at high altitudes, dehydration becomes a big cause of Altitude Sickness.
We have expert leaders who are experienced in First Aid on all our events but still, there might be situations under which an emergency evacuation might be needed. If this kind of situation arises, we are committed to making a safe evacuation for you in an emergency. Also, we will make all necessary & adequate arrangements for your evacuation to the nearest road head or hospital. The participant himself would pay any additional expenses incurred during the process. Our company will not be liable to pay for these expenses.
The maximum group size of our treks by any region is 15 participants. We focus on individual attention and the safety of our trekkers.
Yes, we do have our minimum group size as we require just 5 persons to depart. We had never cancelled or combined with other trekking companies any of our group of 5 persons from departure dates.
The toilet tents will be set up on each campsite. Inside the toilet tent, one pit hole would be digged with the help of a shovel, a heap of mud and one shovel kept beside the pit (it is used to spread the mud after you have done your business). Use it in Indian style.
