The name 'Kanamo' consists of two words, Ka and Namo, which means "a white lady". Kanamo Peak is locally called white Lady, standing at the height of 19,553 feet behind the Kibber village. It is one of the easily accessible mountains of the Spiti Lahaul region, which is a non-technical climbing peak and does not require technical skill. But for sure, one needs to get well acclimatized before attempting to the summit and it requires good physical fitness. Kanamo Peak is considered a great alternative to Stok Kangri, Friendship Peak and Deo Tibba. This trek may even allow encountering Himalayan Fauna such as Tibetan wolves, Ibex, Blue Sheep, Yak and elusive Snow Leopard, whereas the abundance of flora is seen in summer. The trekking terrain of Kanamo Peak is mixed with snow boulders, moraines and scree. From the summit of the Kanamo Peak, one gets fabulous views of Ladakh, Spiti, Pin Parvati Pass, Parang La and the peaks of Kinnaur side. The Kanamo Peak best time to visit is in the months of June to September because, during these months, you get perfect weather. Spiti, also known as Little Tibet, Spiti's topography is marked by high mountains and narrow river valleys with flat land being an uncommon occurrence. The rugged climate and high altitude of the Spiti region make it somewhat difficult for human habitation. Lahaul & Spiti region has a few more treks to offer other than Kanamo Peak named Yunam Peak, Parang La Pass and Mt. CB 13 & CB 14.
Kanamo Peak temperature is 10 to 22 degrees Celsius during the sunny day, and during nights the temperatures drop up to 6 to -4 degrees Celsius. Stay on this page for more information like Kanamo Peak weather, trek itinerary, photos, videos, and more about Yunam Peak. Scroll the page till the end to read Kanamo Peak blog posts.

The drive to Kaza via Rohtang Pass where you can look for spectacular views of clouds over mountains. The amazing vistas of Spiti Valley will compensate for the bad roads of the Manali-Leh highway. Today we will be gaining altitude approx. 5000 feet and it will take approximately 7-8 hours to reach. This journey is full of thrilling and adventurous experiences with picturesque villages. After reaching Kaza, explore the surrounding area and overnight stay at the Guesthouse/Camps in Kaza.

Post breakfast & briefing, the day starts with a trek to the Kanamo basecamp. The trek from Kibber to Kanamo base camp is a continuous ascent for about 6 – 7 hours and we walk through rocky slopes, grasslands & desert mountain valleys. The trail is gradually ascending in the first half of the trek; then, it becomes flat with a gradual ascent in the last leg. Today you gain an altitude of approx. 1500 feet. There are two lakes on the way. One of these supplies water to Kaza village. You will even cross numerous fields growing peas after leaving the village. The last stretch of the trek is picturesque, with smaller varieties of Brahma Kamal and multiple types of flowers strewn all over. We are expected to reach the Kanamo base camp by noon. In the evening, we will go for a short acclimatization walk. Do not sleep. Staying awake in the daytime helps your body to acclimatize, but don't exert either. Rest is equally important for your body to acclimatize. We will have a very early dinner around 7:00 PM as we have to start our climb for Summit early in the morning. Overnight stays in tents.

We will wake up early in the morning at 3:00 AM and will start our summit attempt at 4:00 AM. There are two steep slopes that we need to climb today. The first one is extremely steep and it will take almost 3 hours to complete. After another steep climb of about 4 hours for 4 kilometres through moraine and mixed scree terrain, you start witnessing different views. The view opens up immensely after you climb this steep section. You reach the Summit and will be finally standing atop Mount Kanamo. A panoramic view surrounding Mt. Kanamo is nothing short of heaven. The spellbinding view of the entire Kinnaur Lahaul & Spiti region is just amazing, and the gigantic glacier at the back from Kanamo is so real. After all the hardship, one can witness the clear view of Mt. Chau Chau Kang Nilda, Shila Peak and two renowned passes - Parang La and Pin Parvati from the top of Kanamo Peak. After admiring those majestic mountain ranges, we finally started to descend from the Summit. The descent from the Summit to Kanamo basecamp will be relatively easy and take less time, approximately 3 hours.

This day is kept as a buffer day for the Kanamo summit trek. So keep one extra day in your trek duration and make your booking accordingly.

Today your journey to Manali starts early morning at 4.00 AM, so you can reach on time to take your bus to Delhi. The return journey is quite nostalgic as you drive through familiar terrain on the same route. If you plan to spend more time in Spiti after the trek (on your own), go across the Spiti River. There are many places to visit, like the beautiful village of Rangrik, with a huge Buddha statue atop a mountain. You can even see Hikkim, which has the world's highest post office. Another place to visit in Spiti is the Key Monastery, one of the large monasteries in this region. En route, you will see the lovely village of Chicham, which is connected to the road by a pulley-operated trolley.
The following is a list of things we suggest that you carry with you. It is not expected to be a comprehensive list; rather, it is intended to remind those items essential for your comfort during the trek. However, we recognize that you may have your personal preferences for clothing, which may be equally appropriate.

Manali is very well-connected to the famous tourist destinations in Himachal, Chandigarh (310 km), Delhi (540 km), Ambala (370 km) and Dehradun (227 km) through state-run and private buses at a reasonable cost. During the long-distance journey to Manali, it is advisable to choose Volvo buses over ordinary buses, to ensure a more comfortable journey in the mountainous terrain.
Note:- The bus journey from Delhi to Manali takes 14 to 16 hrs for 550 km and it is advisable to book your tickets around 12- 02 pm in the noon to reach early in the morning for your treks and to avoid delays.
Manali does not have a railway station. Joginder Nagar Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Manali, but it is not connected to major cities of the country. The nearest major railway stations are Chandigarh (310 km) and Ambala (350 km), which is well connected with major cities like New Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Lucknow, Indore, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai, circuitously. From there you can take prepaid taxis which take 7 to 8 hours to reach Manali from Chandigarh and Ambala and 9 to 10 hours by public transport (Ordinary and Volvo Buses).
The nearest airport is at Bhuntar, located approximately 50 km away from Manali. Domestic flights connect Bhuntar with Delhi and Chandigarh. However, owing to weather conditions, flights are not the most reliable option for getting to Manali. Once you reach the airport, you can take prepaid taxis outside the airport, which can be availed to get transferred to the main town of Kullu and Manali (fare 600- 1000 approx.).
Chandigarh Airport is also one of the nearest International airports to reach Manali. It only takes 7 to 8 hours to reach Manali from Chandigarh by taxi and 8 to 10 hours by public transport.
