Rupin Pass is a moderate-level trek that takes you to an altitude of 15295 feet starting from Jiskun in Himachal at 7650 feet this trek takes you on an unforgettable journey with new sceneries unfolding before you at every turn. After crossing a small wooden bridge you follow the Rupin River trek along and enter the u shaped Rupin Valley, crossover to Kinner Valley via Rupin pass and reach Sangla. Your trek ends here. The Rupin Pass trek commences from Jiskun- a charming agricultural village. It takes about 9-10 hours to get to Jiskun via taxi. So, make sure you get to Shimla one night before so you can leave for Jiskun early morning the next day, and get a few hours to rest or to reach the destination on time and to avoid any delays due to traffic jams. The road to Jiskun will go through Kufri, Rohru and Chirgaon. On the side of the road, keep your eyes to spot several popular tourist places. The ride to the Rupin trek base camp becomes more enjoyable after you cross Kufri. Halt for some time to watch out for the pretty town of Rohru.
You can book transport from us, our team will pick you up from Shimla Bus Station in the morning at 6:00 AM. Everyone assembles at the pickup point on time so we can start our long drive up to Jiskun village. Bolero and similar cab costs 11,000 and will be shared by 6-7 trekkers. The transport charge is not included in the trek cost. It is to be split amongst trekkers and pay the driver directly. Otherwise, you can easily reach Jiskun by road transport from Shimla and Rohru.

After having breakfast, we start our trek to the Hanging Village - Jhaka. Trekkers set off on a scenic trail that winds through dense forests and charming villages. The trail initially gradually ascends, providing panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. We cross a small wooden bridge over a bubbling stream and pass through vibrant rhododendron forests, especially stunning during the blooming season. There are several water sources available in the form of streams and waterfalls
Jhaka is the highest and last inhabited village on the Rupin trek. The quaint village, nestled amidst the hills, offers a perfect spot to rest and soak in the serene environment. Today's trek, filled with natural beauty and local culture, sets the stage for the more challenging yet rewarding days ahead on the Rupin Pass Trek. Spend the day resting at Jhaka, roam around with the guide and acclimatize.
Altitude: 11700 feet | Trek Distance: 11 KM | Trek Duration: 7-8 hours | Trail Grade: Easy to Moderate
The day starts with a blissful morning in Jhaka. After a healthy breakfast, we will move to the next campsite Dhanderas Thatch by crossing Saruwas Thatch campsite. The trail passes through the field of Jhaka village and enters a forest of fir trees. As you enter the forest a turn in the trail changes the landscape, snow starts from Udaknal during May and you have to cross snow bridges over the Rupin River. Reach Buras Kandi for the first view of Rupin waterfall and the whole Rupin valley, Saruwas Thatch Campsite alongside the river, water sources available as streams all the way. It takes 4-5 hours and you walk on gradual ascents all the way to Saruwas Thatch. After stopping for lunch at Saruwas, we will continue our trek towards Dhanderas Thatch, which is 3 kilometres away. It takes about 2-3 hours approx. to cover the distance. During May the whole trail can be covered in knee-deep snow and snow bridges. The Rupin River flows in the mid of the valley and there are many waterfalls on either side of the valley which stays frozen in May and getting water can be tricky. Post monsoon it’s a pleasant walk with Rupin waterfall in the front coming nearer and nearer to you. Enjoy the trekking on trails and snow views there. Overnight stay in tents.
Altitude: 13290 feet | Trek Distance: 4 KM | Trek Duration: 3-4 hours | Trail Grade: Moderate
The trekking for the day is 3 to 4 hours. Our leader will teach you how to ascend in snow, sidestepping and cutting the snow for better climbing and safety. Be careful of breaking ice slabs with the melting snow after sunrise, leave as early as possible in the morning, and don’t hurry, it’s a steep climb but will eventually get over and stay focused and careful irrespective of any season. In May, expect to cross the waterfall on a snow bridge. The Upper Waterfall campsite is just above the waterfall, a very beautiful campsite but can be very cold and windy depending upon the weather. Peg in your tents tightly here. Stay extra careful during May due to melting snow during the day and the same getting frozen in the evening. Save your energy for tomorrow because you cross Rupin pass.

The most adventurous and challenging day of your trek. Today's climb will be the longest one as it will take 8 to 10 hours. The steep climb to Rata Pheri glacial plain for one hour followed by crossing the plain for one hour gradually ascending towards the north into the gully of Rupin pass which is again a very steep climb of 30 minutes (200 mtrs). Start your day as early as 4:00 am such that you reach the Rupin pass at 7 or 8 am. During May spikes are a must to negotiate early morning hard snow, don't be late or you may encounter rock fall at the Rupin gully if snow starts melting.
Enjoy your time at the pass celebrating with group photos and then start descending. During May you can slide down almost a km in less than 30 seconds. Be careful afterwards while crossing the spurs of the valley when there is snow. As soon as you cross the snowline, you reach Ronti Gad. Toady Carry enough hot water from the camp because water sources are very far, during may no water source from last campsite till you reach nearby Ronti Gad. So fill your bottles from the start and stick with your local guide. Finding a route during May when there is full snow is not easy.
This day of the trek is one of the most significant ones, the probability of reaching the top significantly rises and this day cannot be skipped. This day can be used at any camp of the trek depending on the prevailing circumstances at that time. Generally, it has been observed that sometimes, the trekkers became very tired or the climate also does not support and in those situations, it becomes mandatory that you take a rest for one day, this day benefits us greatly & prevents our schedule from getting spoiled. This trekking day is flexible on weather conditions and is at the discretion of the Trek Leader.

Today you have to steep descent all the way from Ronti Gad to Sangla. It takes 5-6 hours to reach Sangla which will be followed by 8 to 9 hours of drive to Shimla. Till Sangla, it's a normal walk. An hour and a half later you'll reach the lush grasslands of Sangla, where you can network again. From there go down the village towards the Baspa river and walk alongside, pass cross through 1 or 2 landslide areas carefully to reach a hydroelectric plant site. From here you've got a wide motorable trail all the way to Sangla. There are lots of trails meeting and leaving your trail, so it’s suggested to stay with your guide and ask people if you are not sure of the trail. Water sources are plenty.

The base camp for the Rupin Pass Trek is Jiskun village located in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh. No direct buses are available for Jiskun. By bus, you can reach Rohru and then hire a taxi. The Rohru bus leaves early in the morning, so it is advisable to plan the journey accordingly. Otherwise, you can take a cab from Shimla to Jiskun Village. Jiskun village is a remote location and the roads through Fagu, Rohru and Chirgaon can be challenging, especially during the monsoon and winter. The distance between Shimla and Jiskun is approximately 190 km, and it takes around 09-10 hours to reach by road, depending on traffic and road conditions. It's recommended to start your journey early in the morning to avoid traffic and reach Jiskun before nightfall.
Note: - The bus journey from Chandigarh to Shimla takes 4 to 5 hours for 120 KM. It is advisable to book your tickets around 11 pm in the night to reach the early morning for your trek to avoid delays.
The nearest railway station to Jiskun is Chandigarh, which is well-connected to all major cities of the country like New Delhi, Jaipur, Ajmer, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bangalore circuitously. The railway station is located at the heart of the city, which is 10 km away from ISBT Sec. 43. Jiskun is approximately 285 km from Chandigarh and 191 km from Shimla. You can take a bus to Shimla from Chandigarh Bus Stand and then hire a taxi to Jiskun.
Toy Train: - The toy train from Kalka to Shimla is famous for its scenic views and heritage value.
The nearest airport to Joshimath is Jubbarhatti Airport in Shimla, approximately 215 km away but it has limited connectivity. So Chandigarh is nearest well connected airport. Domestic flights connect Chandigarh with Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. Once you reach the airport, you can take prepaid taxis or buses outside the airport for Shimla and then continue the journey to Jiskun by road.

During the Rupin Pass trek, temperatures vary depending on the season. In summer (May to June), daytime temperatures range from 14°C to 20°C, while nights can drop to 2°C to 5°C. In autumn (September to October), expect cooler days around 8°C to 15°C, with chilly nights dipping to -2°C to 4°C.

You can carry medicines prescribed by your doctor, if any. Although we have our First Aid kit with us on each trek, we suggest you carry some painkillers, Volini spray, kneecap, Electrals/ORS, etc.
Generally, people prefer Diamox for easy acclimatization, but we strictly avoid this kind of acclimatization. We encourage our trekkers to a natural acclimatization process. Hence you shouldn't be on the Diamox course before the start of the trek.
Drinking Alcohol or any other intoxication during the trek is strictly prohibited. Alcohol or this type of stuff dehydrates our body and at high altitudes, dehydration becomes a big cause of Altitude Sickness.
We have expert leaders who are experienced in First Aid on all our events but still, there might be situations under which an emergency evacuation might be needed. If this kind of situation arises, we are committed to making a safe evacuation for you in an emergency. Also, we will make all necessary & adequate arrangements for your evacuation to the nearest road head or hospital. The participant himself would pay any additional expenses incurred during the process. Our company will not be liable to pay for these expenses.
The maximum group size of our treks by any region is 15 participants. We focus on individual attention and the safety of our trekkers.
Yes, we do have our minimum group size as we require just 4 persons to depart. We had never cancelled or combined with other trekking companies any of our group of 4 persons from departure dates.
The toilet tents will be set up on each campsite. Inside the toilet tent, one pit hole would be digged with the help of a shovel, a heap of mud and one shovel kept beside the pit (it is used to spread the mud after you have done your business). Use it in Indian style.
