The Tarsar Marsar lake trek in Kashmir Valley encloses a journey of two beautiful lakes surrounded by the peaks of the Kolahoi Mountains. This beautiful trek is a less explored trek usually done in summers in Kashmir's only wonderland, the so-called "Switzerland of India." Arrive in Srinagar by 11:00 AM, If you have opted for transport with Hikers 360, please ensure you board our vehicle from Dal Lake in Srinagar by 12:00 PM and that takes you on a 4-hour drive to Aru Valley, which is close to one of Kashmir's famed tourist destinations of Pahalgam. If you are travelling on your own, you can hire a private cab or shared taxi to reach the Aru Valley. Arrive in Aru basecamp at the latest by evening 3-4 PM. Pahalgam is best known for its scenic beauty. The famous Amaranth Yatra starts from here, and one of the best mountaineering and winter sports institute Jawahar Institute of Mountaineering (JIM), is located in Nunwan-Pahalgam. In the peak summer season, you can do water sports like rafting, Tubing and all. Aru is our base camp for this Tarsar Marsar Trek. In winter, due to heavy snowfall, Aru becomes a skiing place for tourists and locals. Although Gulmarg is best known for skiing but Aru itself holds suitable slopes. On reaching there, we will check in to the hotel/guesthouse and overnight stay there.

This morning, we will start our trek towards Lidderwat Campsite, which is approximately 10 kilometres, and it takes 6 hours to reach there. We will be walking through the trails that follow alongside the river Lidder and opens into the lush green meadows of the Lidderwat Valley. Initially, the trail starts with a gradual ascend for 2 to 3 hours through a beautiful Pine forest trail. During this trial, you will see Gujjar huts inhabited by seasonal, migrating shepherd people. After walking for an hour, the trail crosses two clear streams, the second one over a wooden bridge. Here you can refill your water bottles as the water so pure and clear. Another gradual ascent for an hour, and you reach the beautiful campsite of Lidderwat. You have enough time before Sundown to explore the Lidderwat campsite. Overnight stay in tents.

Wake up to the blissful morning at Lidderwat campsite. Today we head towards our next campsite, i.e., Shekwas, which is at an altitude of 11,040 feet. The trek distance from Lidderwat to Shekwas is approx. 5.5 kilometres and it takes 5 hours to reach there. The trek gradient is moderate as the trails are continuously ascending for the first two hours with a few short-level walks. During your walk to Shekwas, you will cross many streams with clear water to drink, and you can refill your water bottles. There are a few friendly Gujjar huts where you can stop and have a hot cup of tea for delight. At last, you reach the amazing campsite of Shekwas, where you will find wide grounds. Overnight stay in tents there.

Today you are going to visit one of the twin sisters, i.e., Tarsar Lake. After a healthy breakfast, we start our trek, it's 3-4 hour long trek covering approximately 5 kilometres. The trails go through grassy lands for a long while with the continuous ascent, mostly on gradual inclines. After walking for a while, you start inclines towards a conical hill in front. The top reveals the splendid views and different wondrous sceneries. Two hours later, the trails finally reveal the narrow glimpse of Tarsar Lake. It's a delight to get even a slight glimpse of it and make you rush to reach the lake's shores. The lake is a stunning display of nature's gift. It gives you the feeling of the only paradise on Earth. We'll set up a campsite there and explore the place. Overnight stay in tents.
Altitude: 13160 feet | Trek Distance: 5 KM | Trek Duration: 5-6 Hours | Trail Grade: Moderate+
Today we will leave this wonderful campsite and head towards the next campsite of Sundersar Valley, another beautiful campsite. As we start our trek, we have to cross the ridge, which surrounds Tarsar Lake. It takes an hour to climb that ridge, which is a steep ascent, and test your stamina for the day; you reach the top and start descending into the valley on the other side. The views from the top of the ridge to both sides are breathtaking. The valley is covered by wildflowers on walking for a while, and even you will find some shepherd who's grazing their sheep on those grasslands. On your trail to Sundersar, you will find some boulders too. At last, you reach near Sundersar Lake, which has wide flat grounds for camping. We will set up the camps here and overnight stay in tents.

This day, we will visit the second lake of the twin sisters, i.e., Marsar Lake. The trek to Marsar Lake takes about an hour, located on the other side of the ridge. Two passes from Sundarsar will take you to Marsar. The views of Marsar Lake are equally breathtaking as of Tarsar Lake. On reaching, we will spend a few minutes there, click some memorable pictures, and head towards our Sundarsar campsite and then to Homwas. It takes 45 minutes downhill to reach Sundarsar campsite. The trails to Homwas go deep down the valley, where the tree line begins. Soon you'll reach the campsite. Overnight stay in tents.

This day is the last day of your Tarsar Marsar Trek. Today we will start our trek early after having breakfast, and we head towards the Aru; the trek to Aru will sweep across the same charming meadowlands we had experienced on the trek first days, and the Lidder River, which we would now follow downriver. After stopping for lunch at Lidderwat, we will continue our trek towards Aru, which is 10 kilometres away from Lidderwat. It takes about 3-4 hours approx. to cover the distance.
After reaching Aru, we will take a short halt there and board our vehicle for Srinagar. The drive to Srinagar takes another 3-4 hours. From Srinagar, our trek ends, and we will say a final goodbye to the team.

Srinagar is well-connected to important cities like Delhi, Jammu, Leh, Chandigarh, Pahalgam and many more. From Jammu, you can easily access Srinagar through private and state government buses at a reasonable cost. Also, sharing cabs are available from Jammu. Choosing taxis or cabs over ordinary buses is advisable to ensure a more comfortable journey in the mountainous terrain.
Srinagar does not have a railway station; to reach Srinagar is by Train. One has to reach Udhampur or Jammu Tawi Railway Station, which is well-connected to all major cities of the country like New Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Ajmer, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Patna, and Kolkata. The Udhampur railway station is 200 km away and the Jammu Tawi railway station is 290 km from Srinagar. From this station, you can hire taxis or private as well as state-run government buses to reach the magnificent place of Srinagar.
Srinagar has an airport named Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport, which is 15 km away from the Center of the City. The airport is well-connected with several airports in major cities in the country. The airlines offer regular flights to Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore, Mumbai, Leh and Jammu. Once you reach the airport, you can hire a prepaid taxi can that has fixed fares, which can be availed to get transferred to the central city of Srinagar. It has easy access to other beautiful tourist destinations of Kashmir, i.e. Pahalgam, Sonamargh and Gulmarg etc. The major airlines operating in this airport are IndiGo, AirAsia, Go Air, Vistara, Spice Jet and Air India.

Tarsar Marsar Lake Trek is a moderate-level trek. It requires more strength and stamina than easy-level treks. It is recommended that you first gain experience in trekking above 3000 meters altitude in the Himalayas. This is an appropriate trek for seasoned trekkers as they will enjoy the beautiful views and majestic landscapes.
The best time for the Tarsar Marsar trek is anytime from May to September end. June, July and August are especially considered the best months as you can see the greenery all around with clear weather. If you want to witness more snow, then plan this trek in May or September end. But to get the best views to visit in the summers.

You can carry medicines prescribed by your doctor, if any. Although we have our First Aid kit with us on each trek, we suggest you carry some painkillers, Volini spray, kneecap, Electrals/ORS, etc.
Generally, people prefer Diamox for easy acclimatization, but we strictly avoid this kind of acclimatization. We encourage our trekkers to a natural acclimatization process. Hence you shouldn't be on the Diamox course before the start of the trek.
Drinking Alcohol or any other intoxication during the trek is strictly prohibited. Alcohol or this type of stuff dehydrates our body and at high altitudes, dehydration becomes a big cause of Altitude Sickness.
We have expert leaders who are experienced in First Aid on all our events but still, there might be situations under which an emergency evacuation might be needed. If this kind of situation arises, we are committed to making a safe evacuation for you in an emergency. Also, we will make all necessary & adequate arrangements for your evacuation to the nearest road head or hospital. The participant himself would pay any additional expenses incurred during the process. Our company will not be liable to pay for these expenses.
The maximum group size of our treks by any region is 12 participants. We focus on individual attention and the safety of our trekkers.
Yes, we do have our minimum group size as we require just 5 persons to depart. We had never cancelled or combined with other trekking companies any of our group of 5 persons from departure dates.
The toilet tents will be set up on each campsite. Inside the toilet tent, one pit hole would be digged with the help of a shovel, a heap of mud and one shovel kept beside the pit (it is used to spread the mud after you have done your business). Use it in Indian style.
